1. Summary
   Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a bill on Monday that weakens the Walt Disney Company's authority over the Reedy Creek Improvement District. The district hosts Walt Disney World, the world's largest theme park. Disney retains permitting powers over the district, provides public services, can issue tax-free bonds, and gets tax breaks.
   
   The new law is an update to an older plan to dissolve the district. The old plan prompted concerns the public would take on the district's $700 million debt. The new law the governor choose members of the district's five-person governing board, but keeps the debt obligation in the district.
   
   Critics described the measure as political, because Disney opposed previous legislation by DeSantis, and one lawmaker compared the move to nationalizing a company. “How do you give one theme park their own government and treat other theme parks differently?” DeSantis said in defense of the law. Jacob Schumer, a Florida local government expert, said Disney would get the same business benefits, just not the same control.
