   Rep. George Santos (R-NY) has been indicted on 13 federal charges: seven counts of wire fraud, three counts of money laundering, two counts of making false statements to the House of Representatives, and one count of stealing public money. Santos, who was released on a $500,000 bond, called the investigation a "witch hunt" and asked why President Biden's family members were not being similarly investigated.
   
   The indictment alleges that Santos falsely applied for pandemic unemployment benefits in 2020, receiving over $24,000, and that during his campaign, he funneled political donations into his personal bank accounts. Prosecutors also allege Santos hid tens of thousands in investment income from mandatory House disclosure forms.
   
   House Speaker Kevin McCarthy said he would not support Santos' reelection bid next year, but like other GOP leaders, did not urge Santos' resignation. Democratic Rep. Pete Aguilar, who chairs the party's House caucus, has not committed to pursuing a removal procedure.
