SEO in an AI World: First Draft of a Strategy

Article by Eli Schwartz

Eli’s initial thoughts after experimenting with Google’s SGE. To summarize:

  • Focus on the mid-funnel rather than the top-of-funnel, as generative AI responses will likely dominate the top of the funnel for most queries.

  • Build out revenue reporting from SEO and stop focusing on keywords.

  • Create a forecasting framework that does not rely on predicted query volumes and click-through rates.

  • Use a system to collect People Also Ask–related queries to your product or service, as it’ll be easier to identify mid-funnel ideas.

  • Relevance and topical authority will become more important.
