How NASA boosted productivity by 18,200%

Research found that when employees are asked to formally calculate the time they lose to interruptions, they routinely come up with 40%-60% of their most productive time.

Another research analyzed how interruptions (phone calls, incoming email/text/etc. messages/notifications, colleagues, crises) affect productivity.

Here's what they found:
Despite the fact that the average interruption takes just 5 minutes - it takes on average 20 minutes more to get back to the level of concentration, energy, and enthusiasm that we were at prior to the disruption.

An 8-hour workday needs less than 20 interruptions (each per 25 minutes) to completely destroy its productivity.

The University of California studied a group of 17 NASA engineers, who were put into the same room to focus 100% on designing a spacecraft.

Result:
They were able to reduce the amount of time to design a spacecraft from the typical 6 months down to 9 hours!
That's an 18,200% boost in productivity!
