Food for thought:

📰 News & updates

Google’s sunsetting these tools: Search Console's Mobile Usability report, Mobile-Friendly Test tool and Mobile-Friendly Test API.

Introducing Gemini: Google is rolling out Gemini 1.0, their largest and most capable AI model. Its capabilities outperforms GPT-4 on most benchmarks.

Search traffic study: We studied 14 billion pages (our Content Explorer index) to find out how many pages get traffic from organic search. The result: 96.55% of all pages in our index get zero traffic from Google, and 1.94% get between one and ten monthly visits.

Why SEOs make the web better: Ryan, our Director of Content Marketing, believes that SEOs play a crucial role in the search ecosystem and make the internet better for everyone. He makes five arguments to explain why.

Detailed Q2: Glen Allsopp (aka Viperchill) is doing a quarterly report where he shares insights from the companies dominating Google search results and what they’re doing to stay ahead of the competition. This is his second report, and as usual, it’s incredible. (I also appreciate the fact that Glen doesn’t just focus on the UK/US markets; he even touches on sites in other, for example, MoneySmart—the Asian Nerdwallet.)

How Google Search and ranking works, according to Google’s Pandu Nayak: Google’s VP of Search, Pandu Nayak testified at the U.S. vs. Google antitrust trial back in October. His testimony is available as a PDF. Danny Goodwin went through the testimony and summarized his findings in this article.

Link outreach: As part of this post, I polled 906 people on X and LinkedIn about their average conversion rate for link outreach. It’s only 1-5%.

SEO trends: Our Head of Content, Joshua explains three SEO trends you shouldn’t ignore (and three you should.)
