Genre: Dance/Electropop
Release Date: June 26, 2020
Top Tracks: Big Love, Don't Mind, Bittersweet, What A World
Similar Artists: Big Wild, Illenium, The Chainsmokers

Too often, an album is good for a few songs, and then everything starts to sound the same, causing boredom halfway through.  Luckily for DJs and producers, they have the luxury of pulling in a myriad of vocalists to front their songs, and make each one truly unique.  Louis The Child, a production duo from Chicago, is no exception here, and their new album Here For Now is engaging from start to finish.  The common theme is upbeat and uplifting tracks that upgrade this duo to the upper echelon of production acts.  Many of the songs focus on finding one's purpose or passion, like on What a World, where they sing, "What a world we were born into.  It's waiting on you. What will you choose?"

Work Hard and Be Nice

Michael Franti & Spearhead

Genre: Singer/Songwriter
Release Date: June 19, 2020
Top Tracks: I Got You, Good Shit Happens,  Breaking Down the Door
Similar Artists:  John Butler Trio, Xavier Rudd, Jack Johnson

The eternal optimist.  The good vibes machine.  The uplifter.  All of these descriptions fit Michael Franti like a glove.  Thankfully, the latest album from Michael Franti & Spearhead could not come at a better time.  When the world is grappling with a pandemic and quarantine, we need to be reminded about the good around us.  “Bad shit happens, but good shit happens too.  Let it happen to you,” they say, imploring us to take a moment and count our blessings.  Through simple lyrics, and easily digestible melodies, the message from this group is loud and clear.  Be nice, love others, and find the good around you. “Just work hard and be nice to people.”  Amen, Michael.

Chapter 2

Juke Ross

Genre: Pop
Release Date: June 19, 2020
Top Tracks: Atlanta, Someone to Die For, Amazing, Alright
Similar Artists: James Bay, Declan J Donavan

Delivering heartfelt pop with folky influences, Juke Ross makes us feel the emotion.  Luckily, he includes six acoustic renditions of his songs on this album, and that is where the emotion shines through.  “We all need someone to die for, to cry for,” he sings amid smooth falsetto transitions.  While most of the album consists of love songs, they are not all directed at a person.  He writes love songs to his current city (“Atlanta”) and city life in general (“Life in the City”).  The 22 year-old from Guayana (in South America) moved to the U.S. to pursue music in 2017, and boy are we glad he did.

Brand New Man

Brooks & Dunn

* This is a guest review by Stefan Palios, Founder of Remotely Inclined

Genre: Country
Release Date: August, 13, 1991
Top Tracks: Brand New Man, Neon Moon, Boot Scootin’ Boogie
Similar Artists:  Garth Brooks, Alan Jackson, Travis Tritt, Randy Travis

Few people hit the charts like Brooks & Dunn did with their debut album Brand New Man.  Selling over 6 million copies in the United States alone, the album produced iconic country hits like line-dancing classic Boot Scootin’ Boogie, heartache anthem Neon Moon, and the album’s namesake, rock love song Brand New Man.  Initially two solo artists, Ronnie Dunn and Kix Brooks were both signed to record labels trying to make their careers take off, but nothing seems to work.  When a producer suggested they try working together, magic happened.  The duo released 11 more studio albums and 5 greatest hits collections after Brand New Man, becoming internationally known in their own right and becoming one of the hottest duet partners in the industry for other country megastars, namely Reba McEntire.

The Prettiest Curse

Hinds

Genre: Alternative/Pop/Punk
Release Date:  June 5, 2020
Top Tracks: Take Me Back, Waiting For You, Riding Solo
Similar Artists: Twin Peaks, Best Coast

Hinds, the four woman group based in Madrid, has quite a unique sound.  Their new age pop-punk hybrid is fun to listen to, but deviant enough to not settle into either genre alone.  Utilizing chanting harmonies on many tracks, they make you want to chant along with them.  Just when you think you have them figured out, they break into a psychedelic interlude on “This Moment Forever”.  They made a fan out of me from this record.
