Five Great New Podcasts

Welcome to the 135th edition of Find That Pod.

Before we get to this week's podcasts, I wanted to tell you about another newsletter I like. It's called Morning Brew. Oh sure, Morning Brew delivers the top business stories to over 3 million readers each morning. But it's more than that. It's probably the only newsletter I open every morning without fail. Why? Let's review.

1) It makes me laugh

2) The copywriting is downright amazing

3) I get all the stock / finance / business news I want without having to read some boring-ass website like the Wall Street Journal

4) I get to keep up with all the insanity that is the Crypto world and laugh-cry as I see fortunes being made and lost

So yeah, Morning Brew go subscribe, you won't regret it. Ok, now onto the podcasts for this week.

Subscribers may recognize that I've featured this podcast before, but I think it's worth at least a 2nd mention.  In the all-too-common world of podcasts growing every longer in length, it's a wonderful chance of pace to listen to this bite-sized podcast about launching and marketing for online entrepreneurs. Look, during the pandemic, many of us began working for ourselves, so it helps to have a seasoned marketing professional to answer all of our business marketing questions related to online marketing, social media, and strategy.

The Democracy Group

It's quite rare that I feature political podcasts in this newsletter. I'm actually not even entirely sure why, as I'm not exactly afraid of ruffling political feathers. That said, I would hope that we can all agree that on some level, democracy is a good thing, and that we should probably, as a collective society be striving for living in and promoting a healthy democracy. Unless, I don't know, you're one of those people that wants to live under authoritarian rule, then I don't really know what to tell you.

That said, this podcast, is actually a bit of an amalgamation of podcasts about democracy, civic engagement and what Americans can do to fight for robust democratic institutions. The topics are wide-ranging, interesting and provide plenty of topics for discussion with your other politically minded friends. It's an excellent grouping of shows designed to engage your political brain and get you to consider that hey... democracy is actually a good thing. Give it a listen!

COMEDY

Valley Heat

I'm very excited to tell you about this show, and frankly, I haven't seen enough people talking about it. It's a comedy podcast like no other. The premise? It's about a guy named Doug Duguay. He's a freelance insurance adjuster (is that a thing?), trying to figure out who has been using his garbage can as a way to distribute drugs. He lives in the suburban neighbourhood of the Rancho Equestrian District in Burbank, California and records the ongoings of what happens in his life and neighbourhood.

Now, that might sound boring and a little ridiculous, but trust me when I tell you that you HAVE TO listen to this podcast. If you're not rolling on the ground with laughter within the first episode, you're probably dead inside.

HISTORY

The History of China

Without a doubt, China is home to one of the world's oldest and most fascinating continuous civilizations. And while its current iteration of government and authoritarian rule is, as they say, problematic (that's a gross understatement), there's no denying that there is rich 5,000 year history of this land and its people. Want to do a deep dive on that history? There's probably no better podcast in the world than this one to give you all the Chinese history you could want.
