Welcome to the 138th edition of Find That Pod.

Well, that time of year is here yet again. That time we all add to our collective credit card debt with reckless abandon!

Though this year it all feels more expensive. I suppose that's what happens when governments around the world print trillions of dollars / other currencies and pump them into the economy amidst a once-in-a-century pandemic.

So while you're shopping your faces off and hunting for the best deals out there today, might I suggest that you take a moment to zen out to some new podcasts. Here are this week's recommendations:

The Rumor

Sometimes a podcast comes along that so aptly describes what you should expect that I'm just simply going to steal it. The Rumor is at its core a mystery story and a tantalizingly good one. And even if you're not into sports or baseball (most boring sport on the planet as far as I'm concerned), you'll still enjoy this podcast.

It starts as an unlikely conversation at a birthday party that sends two friends on a madcap quest to find out if a salacious sports rumor is true. As their investigation circles the legacies of baseball Hall of Famer, Cal Ripken, Jr., and Hollywood legend, Kevin Costner, they find themselves re-examining their deepest-held beliefs about belonging, believing, and what makes a hero. While the truth proves more elusive than a well-thrown knuckleball, one thing is certain: their lives will never be the same.

A Cosmic Journey

Don't let the title of this podcast fool you. The topics covered are truly wider than perhaps any other show I've listened to. And despite the breadth of the interesting items covered, the show works remarkably well. At its heart it's a comedy podcast that tackles the intersection of science and spirituality. The History of Poland

Allow me an indulgence. For too long I've known far too little about the land of the Poles, and the place that happens to be my place of birth. So when I ran across this terrific history podcast that explores the origins of the country known as Poland, I had to dive in. From its humble beginnings, the show follows the people of Poland as they form their own unique cultural identity, rise into a great European power, cross paths with the Mongol Horde, save Europe from an Ottoman invasion, and do their best to keep their independence firm from one generation to the next.

If you're looking for an insightful take on the news, in particular, anything happening in the world of technology, you'd be hard-pressed to find a better podcast than this one. Hosted by Kara Swisher (who I used to find obnoxious, but has grown on me a tremendous deal in recent years) and Scott Galloway, the Pivot podcast provides a much-needed set of critical voices on what's happening in the world of tech.

It also helps that the hosts seem to have some pretty great chemistry with their banter. After all, good banter is the magic ingredient that gives many-a-podcast its... je ne sais quoi.
