Five Great New Podcasts

Welcome to the 144th edition of Find That Pod.

Happy New Year everyone! Most people have now had the pleasure or pain of trying to get back into the swing of things after a holiday break. That of course only means that we need some awesome new podcasts to gently slide us into 2022. Which I AM 1000% ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN WILL BE BETTER THAN 2021! Right?!? right?! .... sigh.

I should also mention that our ad spots for featured podcasts will be going up in price in the very near future, so now is a good time to book your spots for February and beyond

Without further complaint or solicitation, here are this week's recommendations:

Money Matters with Maddie

I absolutely love coming across podcasts that are designed entirely around social and societal good. But more interestingly, they're designed by someone who has recognized a niche gap in the podcasting informational market and is taking advantage of it. That's exactly what the Money Matters With Maddie podcast is about. It's hosted by high-school student Maddie who has developed an easy-to-understand and digest financial literacy podcast specifically designed for kids and youth! How cool! The show is new, but has already covered topics such as investing, the history of money, mutual funds, stocks, and bull and bear markets!

It's never too early to give your kids a way to become more informed about finances as many of our public school systems continue to fail woefully at that task, and that's why I think you should definitely check out this show.

On the Edge with the Creative Coalition

This new podcast is something a little different. Thus far, with only four episodes, the show has taken on interviews with various guests from the entertainment industry that spotlight stories of opportunity, discovery, and courage. The podcast is hosted by The Creative Coalition CEO Robin Bronk and features incredible individuals whose unique stories will enlighten and inspire listeners.

Given the type of A-List entertainers that sit on the board of directors of The Creative Coalition, household names such as Patricia Arquette, Rachael Leigh Cook, Rob Lowe, Michael J. Fox, Alec Baldwin, and others, there's no doubt the future of this podcast and the topics it explores is bright.

SCIENCE

Unexplainable

As with most stuff from Vox, the Unexplainable podcast is an excellent science show dedicated to exploring all kinds of topics that continue to confound, confuse and fascinate scientists from around the world. Host Noam Hassenfeld is joined by an array of experts and Vox reporters each week to look at the most fascinating unanswered questions in science and the mind-bending ways scientists are trying to answer them. If you're into finding out about things like the quest to build a star on earth, or how the planet Venus went to hell, or why birds are shrinking in size all over the world, or the James Webb Space telescope, this is the show for you.

HISTORY

Obscure History

Mmmm, obscure history, that shit is my jam. So it's no surprise that I have to gush about this podcast. As you can imagine, this show is about the little-known history of various events and people, and goddamn do I love it. Just on sheer topics alone, I would highly recommend this podcast, but everything from the research, to the host's excellent one-man performance, this podcast is worth your listen if you want some 20-30 minute history lessons that will fascinate your brain for many an hour.

SOCIETY & CULTURE

I Always Wanted To

It's the premise of this podcast that got my attention. It's not complicated, but it is compelling. Hosted by Liz Summers, the show is designed as a series of interviews with people who are doing things in life that others have always wanted to do! What sorts of things? Here's just a sampling: Biking across the country, becoming a cave diver, finding your birth mother, building a tiny house, becoming an archaeologist, writing a graphic novel, living abroad, and more. If you've always wanted to do some of these or tons of other things, this show has an interview with people that have done all those things and more.
