Five Great New Podcasts

Welcome to the 139th edition of Find That Pod.

Now that we're into the last few weeks of the year, we're seeing some great end-of-year best podcasts lists. I mentioned a few of them on twitter, but I'll share them with you here as well:

I'll keep my eyes out for more. If you know of any other end-of-year lists, send them my way.

And as a final call for this year, I wanted to mention a few more AD spots open which you can book here

The Rumor

Yup, this is the first time a sponsored has advertised on back-to-back weeks but it's well worth another mention if you haven't had the chance to check it out from last week's newsletter.

Sometimes a podcast comes along that so aptly describes what you should expect that I'm just simply going to steal it. The Rumor is at its core a mystery story and a tantalizingly good one. And even if you're not into sports or baseball (most boring sport on the planet as far as I'm concerned), you'll still enjoy this podcast.

It starts as an unlikely conversation at a birthday party that sends two friends on a madcap quest to find out if a salacious sports rumor is true. As their investigation circles the legacies of baseball Hall of Famer, Cal Ripken, Jr., and Hollywood legend, Kevin Costner, they find themselves re-examining their deepest-held beliefs about belonging, believing, and what makes a hero. While the truth proves more elusive than a well-thrown knuckleball, one thing is certain: their lives will never be the same.

The Magic of Ordinary Things

I love coming across quirky shows like this because it really opens my eyes and ears to the alternative ways of storytelling in this little medium we call podcasting. It's a limited series show, but what is it all about?

How do you go on when the people you love die? If you could see them one more time, what would you say? What would you want to hear? Gina Harris got the chance. An audio drama in seven acts, “The Magic of Ordinary Things” is a musical memoir that tells her story. It is a theatre piece, a dream with original music, and a  tale that spans 43 years. If you're in the mood for something a little different, give this a listen.

TRUE CRIME

Red Collar

Remember that movie American Psycho, the one with Christian Bale? If you haven't seen it, you should. Imagine that dude but in real life. Such a person could not possibly exist, right? Sadly, they do, and they're the subject of this amazing podcast in which host Catherine Townsend dives into the minds of this subgroup of white-collar criminals who also happen to be actual murderers. From CEOs to VPs to other management-level executives, this show takes a look at men (well, mostly men) who seemingly have it all, but still, wind up in the homicide ledger for one reason or another.
