Today I was laid off from my dream job, which coincidentally was my first marketing role. Been in the position for just under two years, it was a small tech company that had been acquired in 2022, and drastic changes by upper management meant that the team I worked with was laid off. If the jobs market wasn’t so brutal, I’d hold out hope of finding my next dream job, but hearing all of the horror stories makes me feel like I’ll never work again, especially when I feel like don’t have a huge amount of marketing experience compared to other applicants. And where I live (Ireland), the number of open marketing positions vs applicants is absurd, the competition is insane. I really don’t know what to do. I was just getting to a place of being really confident in my abilities, the end of the year I was thriving, and now this. A big component of my job was developing GTM strategies as I was dealing with an emerging market, so it’s an avenue I’m looking at again for my (hopefully) next role. But any advice would be great, I feel so lost :(
Hello Fellow Marketers! Like the title says, what is the best paid skill in marketing? I’ve been working in marketing for years. In that time, I’ve honestly done a bit of everything. SEO, PPC, web development, video content, copywriting, graphic design… you get the idea. As we all know, being a generalist doesn’t pay too well. I’d like to pick one discipline and stick with it. I also want to make as much money as possible. If anyone has any advice on the best paid role in marketing then I will love you forever. Or just say thank you in the comments. Whichever works best for you.
So I’ve been at my company for like 4.5 months, it’s my first real marketing job. I’m the solo marketing department there and they’ve never had a marketing person there before (family owned company), except for one girl back in 2016 that they fired for not producing results after 6 months. Well, I’m coming up to my 6 months and I haven’t produced any monetary results (we’re a B2B company of a very niche service). I have produced a ton of results in our social media despite not having any budget, and I’ve rebranded our website and am currently organizing our email outreach. My boss though is getting ancy about no new clients yet and I can really tell. If he lets me go, would this be me getting laid off, or fired? Since it’s because I didn’t produce monetary results? Thanks!
