A lot of people started marketing after COVID-19 thinking this is the new “get rich quick” scheme and the search results for SMMA and Agency were at a all time high Thankfully.. All these kids made no money and the number dropped by 90% same thing is happening with SAAS and gurus are portraying it as “the next big thing” The problem is… That I was looking the other day that companies are advertising for a digital marketing specialist for $45K for an On-Site job in NYC because of the increase in supply of resources having this skill. Business is fucked… Because if you approach a person saying I’ll provide marketing services. He has a long story of how he got an email from a 16 year old promising the same but didn’t provide any results. So… - Barrier to entry is 0 - Supply is at all time high - Trust is at a all time low How do you still make money? Find a good job that pays $100K+ What is the future for marketing services like? I really need expert opinions and I would be personally connecting with the experts giving out knowledge to learn :)
You just started a new job as a marketing manager with a focus on digital. You’re on a small team but you have no direct reports - the marketing falls on you - you’re responsible for everything. What are some of the things you do in your first 30 days? What’s your focus? Ensure analytics are set up well? Do you start documenting data from day 1? Curious to hear your thoughts.
Yes, another post from someone that can’t find a job in this market unfortunately. My last 3 roles were: Head of Growth, Head of Marketing, Marketing Director. Each of those roles only lasted a year; first business was acquired, the next two aggressively downsized during covid. My professional network is weak, I regret not putting effort into this over the years. I have joined freelancing websites for Marketers and have had no matches/intros. I expect they’re way over subscribed by others in my position. I’ve applied for jobs for 5 months straight and not only am I barely getting to the first interview, I’m rarely ever getting any type of response. I know - the market is absolutely crazy right now and has been for some time but as I’ve spent the last 12 years without a gap of more than a couple weeks between jobs, this is hitting me really hard - mentally and financially. I told myself I’d give it one more month and then have to seriously consider a significant pivot (and if that doesn’t work, a career change) to get some money coming in, and I’m at that point now. Has anyone pivoted their marketing skillset into a career which is not as crazy as marketing is right now? For a bit of context I’ve been 80% B2C, tech start-ups and some ecom.
