It’s Wednesday, September 25, and this week, I’ll explain why, when it comes to your newsletter strategy, improving your actual newsletter might not be your top priority. But first…

I’ve got a little surprise I’ll be rolling out later this week. Keep an eye out for one bonus email from me...

If you’re looking for a job in the newsletter space, let me know. I might be able to connect you with newsletters who are hiring…

All of our newsletters this month are presented by GetResponse, an email marketing and automation platform with comprehensive, affordable, and easy-to-use tools to grow, engage, and convert your audience.

If you’re looking for an ESP with powerful automation and monetization tools, give GetResponse a try.

Think Your Newsletter Needs an Overhaul? Here’s Why It Probably Doesn’t (Yet)

Everyone wants to build a better newsletter. But for many newsrooms and non-profits, focusing instead on the structure around the newsletter will allow you to build a better email strategy.

Where should you focus your energy? I’d recommend a few priorities:
  • Trying different ways to grow your list.
  • Focusing on new monetization opportunities.
  • Building out your automations.
  • Identifying the right metrics to measure — and how to measure them.
Let’s go through each item and see if we can find a few things you should be prioritizing.
Here’s what I’d prioritize
A big thank you to GetResponse, this month’s sponsor of Inbox Collective — they’re making everything you see here in the newsletter and on our website available for free to all readers.

If you’re not familiar with GetResponse, I’ll give you the quick no-background: They’re an email marketing and automation platform with comprehensive, affordable, and easy-to-use tools to grow, engage, and convert your audience. And when I say affordable, I mean that: On many plans, they’re up to 75% cheaper than many American email platforms. (GetResponse was founded in 1998 in the Polish seaport of Gdańsk.) Plus, new paying customers get free migration support, onboarding, and a custom-designed email template when they make the switch.

If you’re looking for an ESP with powerful automation and monetization tools, give GetResponse a try.
