Inside Intercom - Being out while the world is in

Hey there,

Every year, Pride is a time for the Intercom team to reflect, learn, and celebrate. This June marks the second year of doing things a little differently, and many of us are once again celebrating Pride month from home.

After one of the most challenging years in a generation, many members of Intercom’s InterProud community found themselves reflecting on the experience of “being out while the world is in” – the pandemic’s disproportionate effect on the LGBTI+ community, the loss of crucial support systems, and for some, new realizations about their sexualities, gender expression, and identities.

At Intercom, we’re striving to continue to build personal and professional spaces where people are comfortable bringing their whole selves and identities, especially now that the line between work and home has been blurred. Pride is a reminder to reflect on our work so far and explore what more we can do as colleagues, friends, and allies.

As the world begins to reopen, there’s a little more hope to be found during Pride month 2021. In a special Pride edition of the Inside Intercom podcast, Matt, Sam, Leanne, Shauna, and Jess reminisce on life before lockdown, sharing some of their favorite memories and reminding us of a very Irish phrase – going “out out” – when a plan becomes bigger than going to the cinema or meeting a friend for a coffee.
