As always, welcome new subscribers!

150 weeks in a row of this newsletter. Not bad right? And yet I feel like I'm just getting started.

Some incredibly awesome things are being worked on in the background so stay tuned for announcements about those in the coming weeks and months.

Here are this week's recommendations:

History’s Trainwrecks

If you’re a long-time subscriber of this newsletter, you’re well aware of my propensity towards history podcasts. It’s a genre of audio near and dear to my heart, so I was thrilled to see another history podcast come on board as an advertiser.

The History’s Trainwrecks podcast is, as you may have guessed it, all about the self-destructive tendencies of historical figures who lose everything even when the prize of a lifetime is in reach, often costing them a treasured place in history. The show is fairly young but already has an impressive back-catalogue of topics, some of which are explored in glorious depth and detail.

I mean, how can you go wrong with an episode titled John D. Rockefeller’s Favorite Cheese? or Ernest Hemingway’s Last Penny? Sure, many historical figures will live on in infamy, but many of their lives ended in ruin. This show is all about exploring what happened to these well-known figures. Give it a listen!

The R-N-R Hour

Sometimes you just need a good, chill, story to relax to. Perhaps you're looking to relax your mind, fall asleep, or just be entertained with a good story. That's what the R-N-R Hour podcast is about, or at least that's what I think it's about, given the fact that it's only 3 episodes deep so far.

It's fictional storytelling that provides adventure, stimulation of your imagination, and insight into the complexity of the human condition. The R-N-R Hour is a biweekly podcast that delivers a series of stories for your entertainment.

Using the Whole Whale - A Nonprofit Podcast

Outside of the corporate world, there is an entire ecosystem of non-profits that are generally working for the social good. And there are plenty of people that work at these non-profits, some of which I know very well. So when I came across this podcast dedicated to the non-profit sector, I was immediately intrigued.

While the podcast is pretty widely ranged in terms of topics there is an underlying current of discussion around what tech is working to create impact, and how data is being used effectively within non-profits.

Command Line Heroes

This one is for all the code jockeys. The programmers. The developers. The software engineers. Or really, for anyone that enjoys a good old tech podcast. It's a fascinating, and long-running show from Redhat, the infamous software company most closely associated with its enterprise operating system, Red Hat Enterprise Linux.

The show however is all about the epic true tales of how developers, programmers, hackers, geeks, and open source rebels are revolutionizing the technology landscape. Command Line Heroes indeed.

Abroad in Japan

What started as an incredibly successful YouTube channel under the same name eventually morphed into a podcast. It's a show designed to bring you a taste of what day-to-day life is like while living in Japan. From insider travel tips and language learning to secrets, to truly funny travel stories from listeners and a weekly Q&A, this is one of the best podcasts to listen to if you've ever dreamed of travelling to or living in the land of the rising sun.

City of Ghosts

Fiction audio-drama fans unite. This one is for you. I'm not going to tell you much about this show except that it's very good. It's a supernatural neo-noir audio drama set in 1990's New York and features a heaping dose of corruption, murder, and of-course, something a bit more fantastical. And it happens to also feature a pretty stellar voice cast including Kevin Pollak.
