Meta, the company that was formally called Facebook, is getting into the ambitious translation game.

In a resent announcement, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced the plan to translate the world's languages. According to The Verge's article:

💡
The company says that although commonly spoken languages like English, Mandarin, and Spanish are well catered to by current translation tools, roughly 20 percent of the world’s population do not speak languages covered by these systems.

This has a huge impact in general and in marketing. Imagine being able to reach the various dialects in India or some far flung area of Africa with your marketing message in a way that is impactful to that group? Say what you will about Meta and their Facebook (et. al) product, this  endeavor could be world-changing.

💡
“Eliminating language barriers would be profound, making it possible for billions of people to access information online in their native or preferred language,” they write. “Advances in [machine translation] won’t just help those people who don’t speak one of the languages that dominates the internet today; they’ll also fundamentally change the way people in the world connect and share ideas.” — Mark Zuckerberg

Many of us in a certain age group remember the babble fish from Hitchhikers Guide To Galaxy. The little fish would wiggle into your ear and translate in real time any language.

To say I'm excited is an understatement.
