They all laughed when MTV founders said, "We're launching a 24-hour rock ’n’roll channel"
A 24-hour rock ’n’roll channel? In 1981?
It's hard to believe today, but when MTV launched in 1981, MTV was an epic failure.
In fact, after its first year of operations, MTV almost went bankrupt.
The first year of MTV on air, they only sold $500k worth of advertising.

The job description for a Product Manager, based on reviewing PM career ladders at 20+ companies 🧵
This month marks my 10th year as a copywriter.
Below are 16 things (9 books, 3 blogs, 2 movies, 1 show, and 1 podcast) that, so far in my career, have helped me the most.
Plus a key copywriting learning from each.

Welcome to the world, Avery Acunzo! Future Knicks and Yanks fan (that part is non-negotiable) and future kind, creative, empathetic human ❤️
Sometimes I worry that B2B marketers are mainly excited about product-led growth because they can't be bothered to figure out how to work effectively with sales.
We (startup + tech world) have built a really sick, twisted culture. It's not good enough to build a successful company once or twice, to exit with only tens or hundreds of millions.
Dominance. Wealth extraction. Becoming richer than those around you. Such a messed up game.
The first step to deeply understanding customers is admitting...
You’re not the customer
You know too much
You’re biased
Go talk to real customers
Your biggest fear: nobody pays for your services.
Their biggest fear: your services don't make them money.
Solve your fear by proving their fear wrong.
I'm looking to hire a Growth Marketer at @SharmaBrands to work across our brands:
This job is for you if you 💙:
• Working with fast-growing brands
• Being on the cutting edge of marketing
• Getting your hands dirty
Email your resume + a note on WHY:

💯! At 26 I started working at an online marketing agency knowing nothing about SEO which eventually allowed me to find what would be the profession that has allowed me to do, obtain & experience things 26 yr old me would have never dream. Take your time. Follow your own path 🙌
I am 26 and have not
- run a start up
- figured out life
- been a success coach or growth hacker
So, if you see a 19-year-old do all of the above and feel like 'what am I doing with life'
Just stop, relax, take a deep breathe.
Just like I am figuring out life at 26, you'll too.
@mkobach this plus one other learning have resonated with me recently:
when arguing with someone, there's both a rational thread and an emotional thread in their head.
until you resolve the emotional thread, the rational one has no chance.
Well played @Twitter @verified
Just spotted this in the iOS app when I tapped ‘request verification’
I think SEO Product Managers have become much more important to be successful.
1️⃣ SEOs need to get things done - fast
2️⃣ PMs can bridge the gap between SEO and engineering/content/design
3️⃣ SEO can't do it all - Product Management takes lots of time

The more I know, the more I realize I know nothing.

Trust the people who realize they will never know everything. It's the fools who think they have all the answers.
What shows up when someone Google’s you is quickly becoming more important than your resume.
Right now long form content dominates Google but my hypothesis is that people are getting so annoyed by those 5k+ word articles that eventually short and to the point content will make a comeback.
The fascinating thing right now is that there are a bunch of clients where iOS updates have seemingly had no effect at all and there are businesses that have been completely disrupted.
As of now, I can't find any rhyme or reason as to why some are more impacted.
This is interesting.
@MightyApp vs @googlechrome side by side.
Mighty: polite, only takes what it needs, is "doing the work."
Chrome: fat greedy piggy, just eating as much as it wants without considering other's needs. Not to mention - collecting & selling your data.
More companies should use their internal data to do things like this:
The BEST DAY to ever choose to wear a Wonder Woman t-shirt.
I'm ready to cry some very happy tears. 💙
The light at the end of the tunnel isn't here just yet, but it sure looks a whole lot closer than before. 🤞
