Dear young marketer,

I’m by no means an expert or leader in the marketing field. But I’ve been working as a marketer for nearly a decade. I want to share some tips and information with you that I really could have used when I was first getting started.

If you feel like you’re …

I'd love if someone made a YouTube series where they looked through company social media pages and dissected what they are doing right or wrong. Anyone want to do that? I'll edit the first video for free if you'll critique my company's page. *Not advertising myself*

I do video production for a real estate team and I have been tasked with finding out why a competitor that does far less in sales numbers has much better Facebook numbers. I'm watching YouTube videos about the Facebook algorithm and all the videos are the same and not very …

If you were starting in marketing today - SEO, PPC, or Social Media

Knowing what you know now about the future of the industry and the day to day reality of the work, if you were entering the marketing field today for the first time what would you specialise in: SEO, PPC, or Social (or anything else I haven't mentioned, really)?

Copywriters:

If you're doing market research do this:

1) Go to Google
2) Search for your competitors
3) Check the reviews for their products
4) Study the complaints presented in each negative review
5) Solve those complaints with your own product

Implement this.

Win.

SEOs: Make your titles descriptive BUT short. In many cases of clients/own sites where G replaced the titles despite having been optimized: 1) they were too long and truncated in SERP 2) the H1 was shorter and as descriptive. So G takes H1 and adds the brand to it at the end...

Just published a TL;DR version of my "Beginner's Guide to Link Building" at r/BigSEO.

But this TL;DR is ~4x shorter and (hopefully) has all the most important tips and ideas in it.

Check it out! 😉

I’ll just come out and say it: I don’t get NFTs. I don’t understand the JPEGs.

If anyone should get them it should be me. I was early to Bitcoin, a pre-sale buyer of Ethereum, a Coinbase seed investor, early Solana…

And I don’t get it. It feels like the emperor has no clothes.

Re: Google rewriting titles, Google is now pulling a little div block "x min well spent" into the meta-title because it's part of the H1.

To be fair, it shouldn't be part of the H1. But that didn't happen before Google started rewriting titles.

That the marketing world has largely made “storytelling” a buzzword is really amazing.

It’s like if chefs somehow made “cooking” a buzzword.

This isn’t a trend. This isn’t a tactic. This isn’t a hack.

This is the craft. Master it.

It’s your job.
