Last Wednesday and Thursday, I attended SeerFest, an online 2-day conference put on by Seer Interactive, a digital marketing and SEO agency in with offices in Philadelphia, San Diego, as well as remote.

Wil Reynolds, the founder and VP of Innovation at Seer Interactive, who I've known since I started my agency in 2008, is a big proponent of giving back to the communities where his business draws from.

And you know what? He puts his money and time where his mouth is. Every winter for a night Wil camps outside to support the Covenant House, an non-profit in Philadelphia that supports homeless youth. He also requires all of his employees to volunteer as well.

SeerFest is no different. All of the proceeds, this year totaling more than $17k, was donated to various different non-profits and causes supported by the speakers who spoke for free at the event.

The event was a great combination of digital marketing and doing good topics. I highly suggest attending next year if you're able.

Businesses CAN Do Good!

Wil and Seer are a great example of how business can do good in their communities and that it's not all about profit and shareholder value.

If every company in our digital marketing space, and Goldstein Media isn't excluded in this gave back where they could to the communities that serve them, maybe the world would be just a little better for it.

Producing this newsletter is a labor of love for me. I love writing it and curating the links (below), but it cost money. If you're enjoying the newsletter and can forego a coffee at a local coffee shop once or twice a week to support this endeavor, I'd much appreciate it. I use ActiveWords daily! I highly recommend the program. It's the best in class.

Web Finds Of The Week

  • It is official Google is getting rid of Universal Analytics in 2023 in favor of Google Analytics 4 (GA 4). To say the SEO community is upset is an understatement and many are looking for alternatives, myself included. GA4 is not fully baked and is much harder to implement. I personally think this was a stupid move on Google's part as many are going to leave and not look back when it comes to analytics. I'm curious who everyone will turn to to fill in the gap.
  • This is a great rundown of how to grow on social media through the use of giveaways on social media.
  • For better or worse (I think the former), virtual events are here to stay. Due to the pandemic virtual events have emerged as a way to reach people you might not normally be able to get into a auditorium easily. This is an ultimate guide on how marketers can get the most of virtual events.
  • Namecheap is my domain registrar of choice and they have a great blog. The latest is great. I see so many small business making these mistakes over and over.
  • Another great one from the Namecheap blog. Many of these tips I wish I knew 14 years ago when I started Goldstein Media.
  • Like the other find this week. Virtual conferences are here to stay. With virtual events, come a different type of challenges, ways to get the most of the event.
  • Paul Jarvis has been online for quite a while. In his post on the UseFathom.com site he talks about the hidden risks of out-of-the-office emails. This is a must read.
  • A great run-through of how to do internal links the right way on your site.

Podcast Of Note

Yet another great podcast from the Marketing Podcast Network. The (Un)business Podcast with Jamie Lieberman gives a lawyer's honest opinion on business. Jamie makes each episode accessible and easily understandable. Check it out, it'll soon find its way into your regular rotation.
