A funny lie of adult life is pretending we'll act on advice we collect:
I don't revisit bookmarks.
I rarely re-open Google docs.
I don’t re-read Kindle highlights.
Until today, my friends. I finally realized how to turn notes into action:
What's your go-to prioritization framework?
How do you decide what features/products to prioritize?
At times, people will unfairly paint you as someone or something you’re not.
Your goal isn’t to prove them wrong. Your goal is to be so sure of who you are that it doesn’t even faze you.
Don't sell copywriting, sell more purchases.
Don't sell web design, sell more leads & signups.
Don't sell email marketing, sell a revenue increase.
People don't buy services.
They buy outcomes.
What SaaS product(s) have a free plan that you absolutely love?
There’s no “hack” to building brand.
It’s just consistently doing the right thing.
Give the social team an award.
6 Content Marketing Rules
°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°
1. Write for humans not robots
2. Know the goal of your content
3. Write more than 3 titles
4. Always create a strong lede
5. Value first, optimization second
6. Have a scalable distribution plan

Deciding what *not* to do
Update 🚨 Rise at Seven are now in Manchester
Here’s why:
Our current HQ is being expanded as we speak, to fit 110 people a bar, hammocks, cinema area and a studio. We haven’t even moved in and we’re nearly at capacity (or will be in the next month) so we needed to expand...
Viral tweets are overrated and attract low quality followers.
Writing the hreflang-tag chapter of my technical SEO ebook and I'm not loving it ;-).
Average weekly FB spend dipped below year over year comp in the beginning of July for the first time since we have started tracking this data.
Panic?
Short FB stock?
Not yet.
Some thoughts…
Not sure how to sell benefits instead of features?
Go watch QVC for an hour. They sell benefits allllll day long. And they’re the best in the biz at it.
Tell them why they need it, then tell them what it is. It’s that simple.
New SEO habit..
Whenever I get a link outreach email, I put their URL into @ahrefs to see how many links they've acquired with their outreach.
So far I didn't see any examples of successfully acquired editorial links 🤷♂️

Audience research can work two ways:
1) Tactical, i.e. "I already know how I'm going to do marketing and need data on specific opportunities."
2) Strategic, i.e. "I want to learn about how/where to influence my target customers."
Quick e.g. re: a wine distributor friend:
Last 8 years in marketing summarized:
2014: "Email is underrated."
2015: "Email is underrated."
2016: "Email is underrated."
2017: "Email is underrated."
2018: "Email is underrated."
2019: "Email is underrated."
2020: "Email is underrated."
2021: "Email is underrated."
I was asked about signing bonuses for an article today, my take is not really my jam. This week we distributed over $1 Million in @SeerInteractive profits back to our team.
I started @dtc_fam 3 years ago as a way to stay connected with my closest friends.
Today, we meet in real life.
I can't believe this day is here.
Huge shout-out to @hey_monthh @BrownGirlMag and @brikandclik for making this dream a reality 😭🙏
Facebook and YouTube spent a year fighting covid misinformation.
It’s still spreading.
Number of people surprised: 0 wapo.st/3iBCqrF
They helped me get jobs.
They help me get clients.
They help me build my network.
They help me sharpen my thinking.
Side projects.
Nobody can tell you not to. Find a few minutes here and there to tinker just because.
Over time, the benefits compound in beautiful ways.
Build it and they will come (if you earn trust with your audience and work day in and day out to provide value through content, relationships, and collaborations, leveraging scalable channels to distribute your ideas and embed yourself in relevant communities)
